Meeting of Editorially-artistic board for issuance of postage stamps, stamped envelopes and postcards in Ukraine
On 24.12.2009 regular meeting of Editorially-artistic board for issuance of postage stamps,
stamped envelopes and postcards in Ukraine took place.
At this meeting members of the Board and invited persons discussed issuance of postage stamps
according to thematic plan of issuance of postage stamps and covers for 2010.
During the meeting drafts of stamps, covers, and special cancellation postmarks were confirmed and
some decisions concerning issuance in 2010 were made:
– decorative stamped envelopes, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Ukrainian Medical Association
and to the 100th anniversary of Sevastopol football;
– decorative pre-stamped envelopes, dedicated to the 75th anniversary of birth of Vasyl Symonenko
and to the 100th anniversary of birth of Tymofii Khriukin.

On 26.11.2009 regular meeting of Editorially-artistic board for issuance of postage stamps, stamped envelopes
and postcards in Ukraine took place. At this meeting members of the Board and invited persons discussed
issuance of postage stamps according to thematic plan of issuance of postage stamps and covers.
The following matters were approved during this meeting:
drafts of stamps, covers and postmarks of special cancellations;some decisions concerning new postage
issues were made, in particular:
– in 2010 – issue of postage stamp dedicated to Volodymyr and Vitalii Klychko; issuance of decorative
pre-stamped envelopes dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of birth of famous potter Ivan Bilyk
and painter Yavdokha Poshyvailo;
– in 2013 – issue of postage stamp, FDC and holding of special cancellation, dedicated to 1025 years
of Kyiv Rus Christening.

The portrait of Andrii Livytskyi (1879-1954) was depicted on the cover. He was a Ukrainian public and political figure, the UNR President in the exile (1926-1954). Without any doubts, Andrii Livytskyi should be supposed as one of the most successful diplomats, who contributed in preservation of the statist tradition in the emigration.
2. “Zoltan Sholtes” (Definitive postage stamp). Print run – 100 000 copies; Order No. 9-3361. 27.07.2009
The portrait of Zoltan Sholtes (1909-1990) was depicted on the cover. He was a Ukrainian painter, a member of the National Union of Painters of Ukraine from 1946, the Honoured Painter of Ukraine (1975).

The portrait of Bohdan-Ihor Antonych (1909-1937) was depicted on the cover. He was a Ukrainian poet, a prose writer, a translator and a specialist in literature. Due to the official prohibition of his own works, he became well-known only in the middle of the 60-s years of the 19th century as an author of the philosophic and religious works and as a translator of the foreign writers’ works.
6. “1125th Anniversary of Foundation of the Town of Zhytomyr” (Definitive postage stamp). Print run – 120 000 copies; Order No.9-3372.2009.
The architectural monument of the local importance was depicted on the cover. It is the Podil Church of the Assumption, which was built in the 40-s years of the 19th century and Commemorative Mark, which is on the front side of the picture, established in 1984 for celebrating of the 1100th anniversary of the town’s foundation.

New Issues of Stamped Production of the Ukrainian Post

In the second decade of August 2009 the Ukrainian State Enterprise of Posts “Ukrposhta” has issued the following philatelic production:
Decorative stamped covers:
1. “Congratulations to the Independence Day of Ukraine!” (Definitive postage stamp). Print run – 250 000 copies; Order No.9-3367. 31.07.2009.
The Monument to Bohdan Khmelnytskyi, who was a hetman of Ukraine, was depicted on the background of the St. Sophia Cathedral on this year’s cover.
Every day scores of tourists visit the Sophia Square, where the St. Sophia Cathedral is situated. It is an architectural monument and monumental painting of XI century, the Yaroslav Mudryi’s times. Besides the St. Sophia Cathedral, there is the Monument to Bohdan Khmelnytskyi, who was a prominent Ukrainian personality, as well as a great historical and political figure.
Both monuments best of all symbolize Ukraine as a strong and unsubdued state, its independence and unbending spirit. The history of Ukraine knew a lot of famous heroes and majestic buildings, but a few of them could make such bright mark on Ukrainian history as Bohdan Khmelnytskyi and the St. Sophia Cathedral.
2. “Borys Antonenko-Davydovych” (Definitive postage stamp). Print run – 100 000 copies; Order No. 9-3368. 31.07.2009.
The portrait of Borys Antonenko-Davydovych (real surname – Davydov) was depicted on the cover. He was a Ukrainian writer and translator; a member of the literature organization “Lanka-MARS”; a researcher of the problems connected with development and culture of the Ukrainian language.
His contemporaries wrote that Borys Antonenko-Davydovych was a penetrating psychologist and a subtle analyst of the human character, he treated words and images very strictly, with all his creative spirituality this writer was a deeply national person and therefore common to mankind.
In the course of his life the writer wrote a lot of books on social and political themes. His works were issued as separate books abroad, in particular in Bulgaria, Poland, England, Canada as well as in the USA and even in Australia. In 1992 he was awarded the T. Shevchenko State Prize for book “Death. Siberian Novelettes. Exaggerated Evaluations”.

Grand Ceremony for Special Cancellation of Joint Issue “Ukraine-China” Stamps

On August 14, 2009 it was held the grand special cancellation of the joint issue “Ukraine-China” stamps.
The Deputy Head of the State Administration for Communications Viktor Mazur, cultural attache of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Ukraine Chzhou Khao, Deputy General Director of the USEP “Ukrposhta” Halyna Nelepa, General Director of the National Reserve “Sophia Kyivska” Nelia Kukovalska, Member of Board of the Association of Ukrainian Philatelists Semen Nemyrovskyi took part in this ceremony.
Grand special cancellation of these new stamps with a special postmark was carried out by the Deputy Head of the State Administration for Communications Viktor Mazur and attache of the PRC Embassy Chzhou Khao.
Viktor Mazur said: “It is pearls of Ukraine and China. This day is very remarkable for philatelists as well as for all conscious citizens of Ukraine, who respect the heritage of their country and perceive importance of good mutual relations with other countries”. Chzhou Khao, greeting all present people, emphasized that he highly appreciated that event and hoped that it would facilitate further friendship of the both countries.
The Deputy General Director of the USEP “Ukrposhta” Halyna Nelepa expressed hope that relationship of the countries would be strengthened for the future and presented a book “National Clothes of Ukraine” with a series of original postage stamps on above mentioned theme as well as a souvenir booklet with the postage stamps of the joint issue “Ukraine-China” and a first day cover to the guest of China.
